The following is a short little thing I wrote on the way home from Cultus Lake today. I wrote it in my journal in the car so it's a bit disorganized and not overly thought through, more spontaneous. Enjoy!
In the late evening haze, here we stand on the deck of a cabin. Surrounded by friends and mountains that are a green-gray hue, flecked with yellow and gold here and there. We say our goodbyes and pile in the van to begin our trek home again. Driving down a twisty road running along the lakes' shoreline. The setting sun flickers between the trees. The reminiscent aroma of campfire smoke floods my nose as awe pass multiple camp grounds. WE make our way out from between the tall and mighty mountains that surround and guard the beautiful body of water; Cultus Lake. We round a corner, and the blinding light from the golden sun flashes in my eyes. Another turn and the sun vanishes.
Passing the "Thank You, Please Come Again" sign makes me long for the relaxed atmosphere of this place. The way the sun shines through the foliage makes me want to pull over and capture it through my lense without the annoyance of the smudgy car window, power lines, and blur from the motion of the car. The ride back makes me ponder the day, spent lazily lying in the sun and sitting on the edge of a boat dock with my feet dangling in the cool, clear, refreshing water.
Amazingly, you can see a beam of sun shining straight out just over the mountain, produced by the illuminating sun. And as quickly as I noticed them, they are gone.
I enjoyed this day and my surroundings, the passing farms, country roads, old fashioned stores and quaint little houses.
I wonder when we will return.
I see more things and think more thoughts then I can get down, but I wonder how many more lovely days like this I will enjoy this summer.
